Visit the charming town of Ráquira just 45 minutes away from Villa de Leyva. The town is famed for its arts and crafts, especially its unique terracotta cookware. Our tour includes a pottery workshop. Continue afterwards to the immaculately preserved Monasterio La Candelaria, the first monastery founded in the Americas by The Order of Augustinian Recollects.
Details
Itinerary: You will be met at your property in the town of Villa de Leyva. You will be taken to the town of Ráquira where you will have plenty of time to explore the town, the church, and the arts and crafts shops. The tour includes a ceramics demonstration workshop where you will you will learn about the process of creating pottery in Ráquira, from selecting clays to firing and decorating pots. Continuing for 30 minutes by car you will reach Monasterio La Candelaria. The monastery houses numerous halls that highlight religious life and early artefacts. You will have a chance to visit the immaculately manicured gardens and caves built by early monks where they practiced prayer and contemplation. Afterwards you will be returned to your start point.
Duration: This tour lasts 5-6 hours.

Remote hotels
Some of our tours do not require transport, some tours have different prices depending on where you book them from.
Hotels sometimes seek to capitalise on their proximity to certain locations by claiming to be in towns and cities when they are not within walking distance. For example, a hotel claiming to be in Salento could be on the Autopista del Café.
Please check a map before booking. If you book a walking tour from a location that requires transport your tour will fail our validation checks. Likewise if you book a tour from one area but your hotel is in a different area.
