Camino Real is a was established as a trade route by a German immigrant in Santander in 1867. In 1977 the route became a national monument and in 1988 it was restored.
Increasingly it has become a popular hike for those visiting Barichara. Unique arid and unspoilt desertlike landscapes define this ancient walking route to the town of Guane.
Unforgivingly hot and dry, this hike is one of Colombia’s true highlights and an unmissable activity from Barcihara. This hike also features in our round trip The Colombian Extreme Adventure.
If you are staying in the town of Barichara then your guide will meet you at your accommodation. If you are staying outside of the town then we will also provide transport to Barichara. Given the extreme heat it is necessary to start this hike early and aim to finish it before midday.
This is a private tour ideally suited for 2 to 8 people, larger groups can be accommodated on request.
