Pick up locations
Our online booking system depends on having reliable data for the pick up location, otherwise we will not be able to locate you on the day of your tour. Guests are responsible for entering this correct information in order to provision their tour. Please contact us if you need any help with information relating to your location.
Hotels
Our website manages a database of over 4000 hotels in Colombia. Names and addresses have been cleaned, corrected and recorded in a consistent manner. Pick up location is an autocomplete field so entering the first few letters of your hotel name will provide the full name and correct address if it is in our database. This is the easiest way to ensure you have the correct address.
Inclusion in our database does not constitute a recommendation or endorsement. It only means that we were able to establish the correct name and address for the property. Hotels are city specific, you will only be shown possible pick up locations that relate to the tour that you are booking.
Our website will allow you to enter any address into the pick up location field but please bear in mind that if you are staying in a hotel and it does not automatically complete the name, this is probably because we were unable to determine the correct address and you might also have the incorrect address.
Remote hotels
Some of our tours do not require transport, some tours have different prices depending on where you book them from.
Hotels sometimes seek to capitalise on their proximity to certain locations by claiming to be in towns and cities when they are not within walking distance. For example, a hotel claiming to be in Salento could be on the Autopista del Café.
Please check a map before booking. If you book a walking tour from a location that requires transport your tour will fail our validation checks. Likewise if you book a tour from one area but your hotel is in a different area.
We are always happy to help clients ensure they book the correct tour.
AirBnB
AirBnB almost always stores Colombian addresses incorrectly. Please check the correct address with your host before making a booking on our site.
Other private residences
Our website will allow you to enter any private address. Please bear in mind that we require the full street address, the building name if applicable and any unit or apartment number.
Airports
Some tours will allow you to select a local airport as the pick-up location and these tours have been configured with inbound and outbound flights. Simply select your flights from the list. Choosing “None” will allow you to enter the details of a hotel in the same city.
Terms and conditions
When making a booking on our site you will be asked to confirm that you have read our terms and conditions.
Price information
Our resources section contains a useful page explaining how website prices are calculated and displayed.

Vic –
We booked a range of tours with The Colombian Way over the course of 2 weeks. We contacted Mark and he arranged everything from transfers from the airport to daily tours in each location, a private driver and also some flights. He was very fast in communication and was always available to help out whenever we needed it which was brilliant as the Government were changing what was open at a moments notice. He was also extremely competitive on price being 30% cheaper than another tour operator.
The Colombian Way had arranged for their driver to pick us up from San Agustin and drive through to Villavieja. We decided to stayed overnight in Villavieja as it the closest town to Tatacoa desert. We arrived in Tatacoa around 1:30pm which allowed us time to have some nice coffee and cake at nearby Café Mael before we met up with the local guide. We liked the guide who was very friendly and had good English.
There are 2 deserts in Tatacoa, Red and Grey, and we were heading for the Red desert now whilst we toured the grey desert the following morning.
It took about 45 minutes drive to the Red desert. It’s a bit like the red deserts of the USA but much smaller. We stopped to take photos at a couple of vantage points before starting a 90 minute, 2km hike through the red desert. It’s good to get up and close to get the best photos with the interesting backdrops. It had recently rained and we had to tread carefully through some of the mud. At one stage my shoe decided that it would remain in the mud as I marched on… oops!
We saw a few colourful butterflies, some small birds perched on the cactuses (some brown, some bright yellow and an eagle) as well as a hummingbird and buzzards. Also thrown in for good measure was a goat, just wandering around as you do. There are some impressive rock features in the desert like Estoraque la Torre (the Tower Rock). The flowering cactuses with their fruit were also good to see. After the hike we were driven back to our hotel in Villavieja.
The following morning we were driven back from Villavieja to the Tatacoa desert to the see the grey desert. We did another hike of about 90 minutes and saw 3 eagles this time, perched on the top of cactuses. How do they handle those cactus spines?
There’s a sense of peace in this place which is maybe accentuated by going in the morning. The shadows in the morning highlight the rock features that appear like grey blankets tossed over a mound of earth. There are some good photo spots and our guide took some great photos of us.
After the hike, The Colombian Way had arranged for our driver took us directly to Bogota airport. We decided on driving to Bogota airport as it only takes 6 hours and we had heard that the flights from Neiva can be cancelled so we didn’t want to run the risk of missing our International flight if the Neiva to Bogota flight was cancelled.
The Tatacoa desert, red and grey tours, are both really good and highly recommended!
