Founded by escapees fleeing colonial era slavery, San Basilio de Palenque is the first free town in the Americas. Frozen in time, the town is recognised for its culture, language, gastronomy and the history of its emancipated people. This is a private guided tour with transport from your chosen start point.
Details
Itinerary: You will be picked up from your defined pick up location by your driver and transferred to San Basilio de Palenque. Learn about the emancipation, the history of this African town in Colombia, local arts and crafts, the local dialect and way of life of the Palenqueros. Afterwards you will be taken back to your start point.
Duration: This tour lasts 5-7 hours.
Start time: All listed options are feasible.
Guide: You will be accompanied from Cartagena by an English speaking guide in additional to a local Palenquero guide in the town. Drivers will be Spanish speaking.
Meals: Includes a typical Palenque lunch
Transport: Included. Transfers are 1-1.5 hours each way.

Our website will allow you to enter any address into the pick up location field but please bear in mind that if you are staying in a hotel and it does not automatically complete the name, this is probably because we were unable to determine the correct address and you might also have the incorrect address.
Remote hotels
Some of our tours do not require transport, some tours have different prices depending on where you book them from.
Hotels sometimes seek to capitalise on their proximity to certain locations by claiming to be in towns and cities when they are not within walking distance. For example, a hotel claiming to be in Salento could be on the Autopista del Café.
Please check a map before booking. If you book a walking tour from a location that requires transport your tour will fail our validation checks. Likewise if you book a tour from one area but your hotel is in a different area.

Other private residences
Our website will allow you to enter any private address. Please bear in mind that we require the full street address, the building name if applicable and any unit or apartment number.
Airports
Some tours will allow you to select a local airport as the pick-up location and these tours have been configured with inbound and outbound flights. Simply select your flights from the list. Choosing “None” will allow you to enter the details of a hotel in the same city.
