Frequently asked questions
Apple Pay does work, however it has its own rules that differ from those of Google Pay.
1. On an iOS device
Apple Pay will only work with Safari. If you are using a different browser then Apple Pay will not display.
2. On a Mac
Apple Pay also only works with Safari when using a laptop or desktop machine. If you are using a different browser then Apple Pay will not display as a payment option.
Apple Pay uses your fingerprint to authorise payments. If you are using a Mac device without a fingerprint reader then you have to authorise your payment on an iPhone or iPad.
If your Mac cannot see an iPhone or iPad then the Apple Pay button will not display. The most common reason for the Apple Pay button not showing is that your iOS device has no charge, it’s out of range, it is turned off, or bluetooth is disabled.
Our site offers 5 different payment options. You will be shown available payment options based on your checkout currency, device and location.
1. Credit cards.
Enter your card details direct in our checkout page and your account will be debited by our payment gateway partner.
2. Google Pay
The Colombian Way is an approved Google Pay merchant with a Google approved buy-flow conforming to Google brand standards. Check out quickly from product or cart pages without having to enter your personal details. Transactions take place within your Google account, Google will confirm your purchase with us and your payment will be recorded in our system.
3. Apple Pay
The Colombian Way is an approved Apple Pay merchant. Apple only makes Apple Pay available on compatible iOS devices for users with at least one card in their Apple Wallet.
4. PayPal
Choose the PayPal option to either pay via your PayPal account or checkout as a guest via PayPal‘s gateway.
5. SEPA direct debit
When Euros are selected as the checkout currency, clients will be presented with the option to pay via SEPA, the Single Euro Payment Area. Adding your IBAN to checkout authorises The Colombian Way and Stripe, our payment service provider, to send instructions to your bank to debit your account and your bank to debit your account in accordance with those instructions.
Our website checks currency values once per hour and stores the value to 10 decimal places. Google inc. mid-market rates are live and if you check for example EUR to USD it is possible there are minor discrepancies.
Save for major geopolitical events, it is unlikely that the live values varies much from our website value.
The system removes decimals so the value you pay is effectively rounded down to the nearest whole unit. This is to maintain a clean interface. This can also mean that some tours appear a fraction of a percent point cheaper in certain currencies.
No. Our online booking system is for online payments only. If you are having trouble with payments then please contact us and we will happily set up your tour manually and help with payment methods.
We never receive your credit card information.
- PayPal launches a session in PayPal either as a user or guest.
- Google Pay launches a session in Google Pay and is authorised with your stored details.
- Apple Pay launches a session in Apple Pay and is authorised with your stored details.
- For credit card payments, Stripe embeds its own form in our website within an iframe and your data is sent directly for authorisation using our SSL encryption.
At no point is this information processed by The Colombian Way
In all instances payment providers return to us your payment method and the last four digits of your card number in the format Visa – 111. This is to help you identify which card you used when viewing your order in my account.
It does not matter. To maintain the integrity of data in our system, we have pre-populated our website with over 1000 Colombian hotels and fincas in the correct address format.
The properties listed are only autocomplete suggestions to save you having to enter the full details. It could be that you are staying in a new hotel, or private accommodation. You can still enter the address in our website and this will be added to your order.
Yes. The booking page for your tour will indicate a pick up location. This is an autocomplete field populated with hundreds of hotels but you can also enter a private address.
AirBnB habitually issues the wrong address to guests. Please ensure that you enter the correct address in our website. This will be the address that you will be picked up from. If you have any doubts then please contact us beforehand to confirm the address.
In some circumstances your address will be rejected by our provisioning system controls. If this happens we will reach out to you to try to update the address.
Our online booking system is a self-serve system that shows you options, dates, times and locations, allows you to book tours and add your credentials, takes your payment and confirms your tour by email.
Behind the scenes it also generates the documentation that we require to provision your tour. It is a highly automated system that has been designed to function for the majority of day trip options that we offer. It hard codes our years of experience and provisioning systems then delivers that in a useable interface.
To keep the interface simple and allow us to implement sanction checks, it is not possible to add in supplementary information. For such requests please contact us. We will still be happy to discuss your tour in person and aim to accommodate any special requests you might have.
All of our day trips are privately organised. When you see a day trip on our website these are not scheduled tours that are leaving anyway and we are selling a space on it. They are tours that we are organising just for you or your group.
Such tours involve the sharing of resources such as a vehicle or a guide so it is entirely fair that the greater the number of people sharing those resources, the cheaper the tour becomes per person.
This is not necessarily linear. Often a larger group will require a larger vehicle and that has a higher cost which is then shared between each person.
Our website checks exchange rates once per hour with Google inc. mid-market rates and updates the price database accordingly.
When you change a currency the site will refresh and load new prices for your chosen currency. In the event you have started choosing tour options and change the currency, the site will reload new currencies and reset tour options.
The intelligence behind our pricing system is Rosa, our proprietary suite of technologies that stores, updates and manages prices, then feeds them in to both our website information pages and our online booking system.
Rosa maintains a database of prices for every single permutation of every single tour available in our online booking system. A tour with multiple options can require up to 256 tour prices to be managed.
Each tour has default combination of options, for example a 2 hour walking tour for 4 persons. This will be the price that displays when you load the page and any price that is displayed on the associated information page of that tour.
Rosa also stores and displays prices that cannot be booked online. Our round trips are all customisable but will have guide prices for the published tour.
The Colombian Way is a full service tour operator. We specialise in extended tours around Colombia but also offer standard day trips to independent and semi independent travellers.
Our online booking system is a self-serve section allowing clients to configure, reserve and pay for their own day trips with our company.
Visit our main online bookings page to see the selection of tours and packages we offer.
